CISPR

CISPR 11 — ISM equipment

Emission limits for industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) RF equipment.

Sets the conducted and radiated emission limits for equipment that generates RF energy for non-communication purposes — induction heaters, RF welders, medical RF, lab gear. Splits products into Class A (industrial environment) and Class B (residential), each with its own limit lines.

CISPR 14-1 — Household appliances & power tools

Emission requirements for appliances, power tools, and similar apparatus.

Governs the electromagnetic disturbance a household appliance or power tool is allowed to emit — motors, switches, and controllers being the usual culprits. The "-1" part is emissions (14-2 is immunity).

CISPR 16 — Measurement apparatus & methods

Specifies the instruments and methods used to make EMC measurements.

The standard behind the numbers on every other CISPR test: it defines the receiver resolution bandwidths (9 kHz below 30 MHz, 120 kHz from 30 MHz–1 GHz, 1 MHz above 1 GHz), the detectors (quasi-peak, average, peak), the LISNs, and the antennas. If a measurement setting seems arbitrary, CISPR 16 is usually where it comes from.

CISPR 25 — Vehicles & automotive components

Protects on-board vehicle receivers from component/module emissions.

The automotive board-level emissions standard: it limits how much a component or module may emit so it does not desense the vehicle’s own antennas and receivers. Testing is done in an absorber-lined chamber against strict per-service limit lines.

CISPR 32 — Multimedia equipment (EN 55032)

Emission requirements for information-technology and audio/video equipment.

Merged the old CISPR 22 (IT equipment) and CISPR 13 (broadcast receivers) into one multimedia-equipment emissions standard. Class A (industrial/commercial) vs Class B (residential) limits; harmonized in Europe as EN 55032.

FCC Part 15 — US radiated/conducted emissions

US limits for unintentional and intentional radiators.

The US equivalent gate for consumer and IT electronics: it caps emissions from unintentional radiators (Class A vs Class B, mirroring the CISPR split) and sets the rules for intentional radiators like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules.

IEC 61000-4 — Immunity test methods

The family of immunity (susceptibility) test methods.

The other half of EMC — not what a product emits, but what it must survive: ESD (-4-2), fast transients/burst (-4-4), surge (-4-5), and radiated/conducted RF immunity (-4-3, -4-6). Shielding and filtering choices are often driven as much by these as by emission limits.

MIL-STD

MIL-STD-461 — Military EMI requirements

US DoD emission and susceptibility requirements for equipment.

The defense/aerospace EMI bible: named CE/RE (conducted/radiated emissions) and CS/RS (conducted/radiated susceptibility) test regimes with tighter limits and wider frequency coverage than commercial CISPR/FCC. Drives heavier shielding and gasketing on mil/aero hardware.

ISO

ISO 11452 — Vehicle component immunity

Road-vehicle component immunity to narrowband radiated RF energy.

The automotive immunity counterpart to CISPR 25’s emissions: how a vehicle component must withstand external RF fields (from transmitters, radar, nearby electronics) without malfunctioning.
